2013 Largo Teen Idol Winner Headed To Nashville

Carmen Brandy is the latest finalist in the event to try to make it big in the music industry.

The Largo Teen Idol talent competition is becoming known as a springboard for contestants to get recognized in the entertainment industry.

The winner of the 2012 competition, Dunedin’s Nathalie Hernandez, went on to enjoy a lengthy run on NBC’s televised singing competition, “The Voice”, and one of the top-ten finalists this year had to drop out in order to be at a “Voice” audition the same night.

So the news that Carmen Brandy, the winner of the 2013 Largo Teen Idol event, is reportedly moving to Nashville to advance her singing career, comes as no surprise to those involved with the event.

“The talent we see here every year, I’m just amazed,” event organizer and Largo Recreation official Andre Jones said.

“The reason these performers are here is because they are extremely talented. Every one of them is deserving of being a Largo Teen Idol finalist.”

Brandy, who has enjoyed a successful year performing gigs all over the Tampa Bay area, has already made a few trips to Nashville as she attempts to make a name for herself in the country music scene.

The 14-year-old Safety Harbor resident acknowledged winning a competiton like Largo Teen Idol is a terrific accomplishment for a young singer.

“I would have enjoyed being a part of the event even if I didn’t win,” she recently told Patch. “There was so much talent on that stage, I felt blessed that I did win.”

Jones said the event continues to grow; more than 200 people packed the Largo Cultural Center auditorium and participated in the voting to choose the winning contestant.

As has been the case with many Largo Teen Idol finalists, Jones predicts big things for Carmen in the future.

“Carmen performed one of her original songs that left an impact on the audience and judges,” he said. “Listening to her story of being bullied as a child growing up really blessed my soul.”

“I wish Carmen the best, and she will be successful and touch lives all over the world.”
