World War II POW to Receive Nine Military Medals after Years of Waiting

Suncoast Hospice patient and World War II  POW McPherson Plecker will receive nine military medals including the Purple Heart, Prisoner of War Medal and the American Defense Service Medal Sat., Sept. 14, 10 a.m. at The Plaza at the Palms of Largo, 385 Alternative Keen Road, Largo. The Plaza is a space designed specifically designed for and dedicated to veterans. Suncoast Hospice and Palms of Largo are co-hosting the event.

 

Former Congressman Mike Bilirakis will present an American flag that flew over the Capitol recently in Plecker’s honor and a Military Congressional Coin. Staff from Congressman Bill Young’s office will read a letter of gratitude from Congressman Young.

Plecker, 94, said the paperwork for the medals was lost many years ago, and as many veterans, he never mentioned it to others. Upon learning about Plecker’s service and missing medals, his Suncoast Hospice care team offered to help work with the Department of the Navy to get his medals and ribbons.
