State of the County message provides midyear update

Pinellas County Commission Chairman Kenneth T. Welch addresses several key issues facing Pinellas County in his midyear State of the County video posted this week on the Pinellas County website www.pinellascounty.org and on the county’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages (http://www.youtube.com/pcctv1).

“This address is part of our ongoing effort to help our citizens stay connected with their local government,” said Welch.  “It’s a way of keeping our citizens up to date with important issues as initiatives and projects move forward throughout the year.”

State of the County topics include the FY2014 budget, EMS funding, public transportation and Pinellas County’s surface water management assessment for unincorporated neighborhoods.

“While many Pinellas County cities have a dedicated funding source to fund surface water management,” Welch explains in his presentation, “the county does not.  The time has come for Pinellas County to address the issue of water quality and surface water management in a more effective and sustainable way.”
