All Sunstar Paramedics ambulances equipped with newest state-of-art cardiac monitors

Sunstar Paramedics announces the deployment of 80 new Philips HeartStart MRx ECG Monitor/Defibrillators to all paramedic ambulances in Pinellas County, providing the most advanced pre-hospital technology available.

As of April 3, the entire Pinellas County Emergency Medical Services system has transitioned to the new cardiac monitors. This standardization of equipment allows for seamless transitions from local fire departments to Sunstar for transports to hospitals.

This approximate $1.5 million-dollar investment demonstrates Sunstar’s continued commitment to providing the best in clinical sophistication to Pinellas County.

The cardiac monitors are capable of electrocardiogram monitoring, defibrillation, cardioversion, 12 lead cardiogram acquisition and transmission to the hospital. The monitors are able to act as a temporary pacemaker, monitoring blood pressure, pulse, oxygen and carbon dioxide saturation.

One of the most significant features of the new monitors is Q-CPR, which allows Fire/Rescue and Sunstar to ensure quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to patients without a pulse. The Q-CPR is a sensor connected to the cardiac monitor that is placed on the chest of the patient. This provides caregivers real-time feedback on the depth and rate of compressions. Audible voice and monitor text alert the caregiver to needed adjustments in CPR performance.

The monitor also has a large color display, which provides a clear picture of changes in a patient’s heart rhythm from all angles. This allows for a timely recognition of heart attacks.

“The upload of the new cardiac monitors will bring state-of-the-art cardiac monitoring and treatment capabilities for all Advanced Life Support providers, resulting in the standardization of all ECG equipment in the EMS system,” said Mark Postma, Chief Operating Officer of Sunstar.
