Air Potato Picking Contest
Help protect McGough Nature Park from invasive and exotic species at the Air Potato Picking Contest at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the park 11901 146th St N. Prizes will be awarded in various categories including most potatoes, largest potato and ugliest potato. Find out more here.

Mom, Son Messy Madness/Daddy Daughter Date Night

The second annual Mother Son Messy Madness from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Highland Recreation Complex, 400 Highland Ave NE. Cost is $20 a couple and $8 for an additional son. Register at Highland Rec or call 727-518-3016. Check here for more information.

Make A Nicho
What's a nicho? Inspired by Mexican Day of the Dead shrines, the mixed-media dioramas depict themes from spirituality to popular culture, often using bright colors and lots of ornamentation, according to Roadside Attraction, which is hosting "Let's Make Nichos" at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at 596 Indian Rocks Road. Ride Through History, Extended

Because of the overwhelming response to the Ride Through History events, the Armed Forces History Museum is extending is through Saturday, Sept. 21. Listen to re-enactors, watch weapons demonstrations and ride on the World War II M8 reconnaissance vehicle. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 4 to 12. Check here for more.

Health Services Closed Friday

Pinellas County Health and Community Services will close its offices on Friday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. for in-service day. All offices, including the Largo location at 8751 Ulmerton Road, will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, and resume normal business hours.

Witness a Florida Ice Battle

The action on the ice heats up as the Tampa Bay Lightning takes on the Florida Panthers during a home preseason game this Saturday, Sept. 21. Tickets for the Sunshine State showdown are still available. Visit the Lightning’s website for all the details.

Celebrate 33 Years of Skipper’s Music

Skipper’s Smokehouse in North Tampa is pulling out all the stops for its 33rd birthday party Sept. 21. Twelve bands will play on the Skipper’s stage starting at noon and running through midnight. Acts include 6 Volt Rodeo, Daniel B. Marshall, The Applebutter Express and Cope. There’s no charge to attend the bash either, but bring some cash for food and drinks. While there’s a low chance for storms Friday and Saturday during the day, the potential for action heats up Saturdaynight with a 40 percent chance of showers. Thunderstorms are likely on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, and it appears the same will hold true for the start of the workweek.
