St. Pete Half-Century Softball Club's Food Drive: Community Invited to Participate

Gone are the holidays. Greetings of good cheer are packed away for another year. Gone is the outpouring of sympathy for the poor and less fortunate.

NOT GONE … HUNGER!

According to Michael J. Raposa, Executive Director of St. Vincent de Paul South Pinellas Inc., January marks a low point in food supplies donated to the shelter to provide the needed food for 900 meals daily.

This is why the St. Petersburg Half-Century Softball Club’s Jan. 16th Food Drive is very timely and critical for the St. Vincent de Paul South Pinellas shelter.

Last year's drive resulted in 420 pounds of non-perishable food items and $535 in cash and checks donated by our Half-Century Softball Club to St. Vincent de Paul.

This January’s food drive is particularly strategic in light of its timing. With the holiday season gone, many forget those still in need.

Hank Bofman, chairperson of the Club’s drive has invited the public to join us in
bringing food, non-perishable food items and cash donations to the North Shore Ball Park, 901 North Shore Blvd. in St. Petersburg from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16.

Please make checks payable to St Vincent de Paul Society, and remember that food should be in cans, cardboard and plastic.  NO GLASS PLEASE!

For further information contact Henry Bofman at 727-551-9618.

St Petersburg Half-Century…More than just a softball club has been the theme of the Club’s 80thseason.  The Half-Century Softball Club is continuing its outreach into the community.

Prior to the beginning of the 2012-13 season, St. Petersburg Half Century Softball Club held our Charity Golf Classic golf outing at Mainland’s Golf Course.

This event raised $1,016 forThe Children's Dream Fund. Ruth, the child selected on behalf of the Club, had her dream fulfilled!

The Club’s community outreach includes its sponsors.  Every year merchants throughout the community support the club’s efforts in publishing a
brochure for distribution to fans who view our games at North Shore Park.

Through the Club’s Support Our Sponsors (SOS) program, we visit such sponsors as Gigi’s, Sunset Grill, Midtown Sundries, Siam Garden, Flamingo Bar, Ricky T’s, and Wilson’s Lounge.  These businesses serve as excellent venues for evenings out for players and spouses as well as for players to gather after games.

Yes! Believe it or not, sponsors such as Dr. Brian Burke of Bayfront Orthopaedic Associates and Dr. Princess Benson of Northeast Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, Inc., have benefited from our SOS Program, too.

St.Petersburg Half-Century…Much more than just a softball club!
