Keep Pets Safe July Fourth, and Take Our 'Petriotic' Survey for DemoCats and RePuplicans

Holidays can be stressful for humans and pets, often for the same reasons: too much food, too many activities, too little time to relax.

Especially on July 4th , there may be too much noise!

Here are a few suggestions to keep our four-legged loved ones safe.

Food safety

  • Any sudden diet changes, even adding novel "safe foods" can cause intestinal upset or even pancreatitis problems for pets – and people.
  • BBQ, really? Also remember that chocolate, grapes, raisins and macadamia nuts are just a few of the foods that can cause serious and life-threatening illnesses to pets.
  • Alcohol is a no-no; even if they are 21 in human or doggie years.

Eliminating stress

  • Ensure pets have a safe place to retreat in your house. Better yet, it’s a great excuse to check on them often; you both will feel better for it!
  • Be sure they are wearing a current I.D. or are microchipped, in case they escape during the fireworks. Microchips have reunited a countless number of pets with their families.
  • If your pet runs away, most shelters have online lost pet reporting services. Check websites in your area and be sure to visit your county animal shelter frequently!
