What's Largo Saying About Gun Control?
As America continues to reel in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., slayings we asked Largo residents to weigh in about proposed gun control legislation.
As people across the country talk about tightening gun control legislation in the aftermath of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Dunedin residents have their own opinions on the topic.
When Patch asked people across Tampa Bay what they thought about banning assault weapons, here’s what Largo Patch readers and Facebook fans had to say:
NEVER! When you can assure me that all the gangbangers and criminals no longer have firearms then 'Maybe" I'd agree with that. Until then.... ammo up. Because the police don't protect... only respond after the fact.

With the demand for guns at the levelest, it is evident giun control is the furthest from ones's mind. To solve a problem is to buy more guns. No one wants to take a look at our lawsl. Four states allow a person to walk into a liquor estanlishment carrying a concealed weapon. It is perfectly legal to do that. But it is mot legal for that prson to drink liquor. How such a law is enforced is beyond me. How many otrher laws are on the books that are plain stupid. Assult weapons should be banned 100%.
Anyone carrying a concealed weapon as a hand gun would not have a chance against a weapon that can fire x amount of rounds per second.
If we do not act now toi try to stop this insanity, those twenty children huddled togetjher in fear and crying for help have been let down. How did this happen?
Well, because we let it happen. So for twenty somje families in a few sort days, it will in deed be a SILENT NIGHT>.

Once again an uninformed person. A well trained "gun handler" DOES have more than a fighting chance against "a weapon that can fire x amount of rounds per second"; I should know I am so trained. What you don not have a chance against is ignorance!

GIVE ME A BREAK! ANOTHER EXCUSE= A WELL TRAINED HANDLER.
Jack Ruby killed Lee Harvey Oswald in a police station. Two Kennedys were assinated surrounded by secret service. Ronald Regan was shot surrounded by secret serv8ice. Even Pope John was shot surroundced by security. But a well trained gun handler will do the job. Teachers who are supposed to teach, I am sure thay are even more well trained than the secret service. Now tell that to those
children and to the families. For the record, the shooter in Ct was a good guy,
the shooter in Colorado was a good guy. You know, the guy down the street where you live. Those persons became bad the second they pulled the trigger. The bad guys are either dead or in jail. This will happen again because we will let it happen.
Thos children cried for help and none was given. They gave up their lives so everyone could buy and wrap weapons and put them under a Christmas Tree.

Everone is concerned about gun onners rights, what if, just a wat if, I board a PSTA bus in Largo, pay my fare, and then ask, anyone carrying a concealed weapon raise your hand. What about my right to know who is or not carryiing. Not one cares about the rights of those children other than hide behind the 2nd amendment;.
Those children did not a have a 2nd amendment to hide. They cried for help=they got none-but, and this is sick, stimulated more gun sales than ever before. That is the solution more guns

For the blissfully ignorant (look-up the word for the real definition) it is not the strong Military, which I proudly served in am a PROUD Veteran of; but, the well-armed Free citizen that any potential and possible invading force truly fears as well as those who are crying foul over the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. If you want to live in a society with gun control and I mean total gun control look to the former communist bloc countries; they had total gun control and they had more gun violence there with FULLY AUTOMATIC weapons in the hands of the criminals (the individuals who were NOT sanctioned by the government in charge). The answer is self-control, returning to respect for one another and getting rid of the idea that everyone is a winner like is taught in the schools ….yes that is part of the problem today the school system and the other part of the problem is the pack of parental interest in their children and the parents right to discipline their children. It is not the legal gun owners who aret he problem. So ride your buss in peace. Oh and by the way read Ann Kolter’s article dated December 19, 2012, titled: WE KNOW HOW TO STOP SCHOOL SHOOTINGS, for a counter balance to the common media mistakes that are so prevalent on this issue. Have a wonder ful Christmass and a Merry New Year.

Oh, and by the way both shooters that you reference as “good guys” were in fact under psychiatric care. The mother in Connecticut was in the process of attempting to have her son committed and the psychiatrist in Colorado could not, by Colorado Law, report that his patient was a potential threat that had homicidal tendencies…..which laws need to be “reformed” you decide…..I think it is obvious not the gun laws.

Why not, instead of contributing to the NRA, contribute to the families in Ct.

Give me a break. No not the gun laws. They are absoletely perfect. Every comma, every period. Why not blame tjhose children for being in that school? HGave you said one word about them. Nothing, except our gun laws are perfect. Why not say those kids wewre at tthe ewrong place at the wrong time. I guarantee you...this will happen again - somewhere-someplace-sometime, and be worse than Ct . But
I can sleep because our gun laws are perfect. Everyone else is wrong,

The NRA came out of hiding. Thewy want money to support any type of gun control.
I will fight to the death for their right to free speech but fight to death to combatr their
madness Pres Obama should now rise to the occasion ahnd make a decision and forget about votes. Those childfren had no vote to live or die.

Same old rhetoric from the same old way of thinking….that is the “where were you crowd”. FYI, I was making a difference in the lives of people here in Florida, hear in our community and (those who personally know me know this for a fact) the lives of people in out Nation; and no I am not going to try to place blame on you or even try to attempt the embarrassment/anger game that you are trying to elect on me and others.; except to say maybe you should have paid more attention in school your spelling is atrocious. For future reference just remember that Swimming Pools have been the cause of death of more children than firearms; yes there have been over 390 children who died because of swimming pools this year and so far 307 children due to firearms; don’t get me wrong both are very tragic as is the death of a child due to a motor vehicle, but you don’t hear of anyone calling for a ban on swimming pools or automobiles? Maybe the City of Largo needs to relook at its swimming pools are they an accessory to murder or at the very least culpable?
