VIDEO: 'I Feel Like Clint Eastwood,' Young Says
Billy Young, Rep. C.W. Bill Young's son, was left sitting on stage when the Democratic opponent removed herself from a forum Thursday night.
Billy Young stood in place of his father, Rep. C.W. Bill Young, at a forum on Thursday at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. Although Young was present for the forum, Jessica Ehrlich, walked off the stage following her two minute introduction. Ehrlich, the Democratic candidate for U.S. House District 13, cited the absence of her opponent as the reason for leaving.
Billy Young stated his father could not make it due to scheduled events in Washington D.C., including a briefing with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Young also provided printed flyers of the representatives's schedule to audience members.
Watch our video for Billy Young's reaction to Ehrlich's decision to leave the stage.
In all, 19 candidates were invited to take part in the Meet the Candidates Forum by the Gulfport Democratic Club and St. Petersburg Republican Club.
Organizers allowed all candidates to address voters with a two minute introduction and followed with two prepared questions for each race. They also allowed candidates to have a representative in their absence; a first for the forums in Gulfport.

How cute,,,, Is daddy trying to set up sonny boy as his successor? First, Bill Young has the gall not to attend an earlier debate, then sends his kid to this one. Second, after vote after vote to continue fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, he has a sudden pre-election "conversion" and wants to pull out. We deserve good representation in Washington, not somebody who simply assumes that we all owe him his vote, irrespective of his behavior.

I guess when a forum is called "Meet the Candidates" it should be limited to those individuals who are actually running for office. It should not be a 'meet a younger relative' event. It is time for a positive change for this area's representation in Congress.

Yep, his daddy does get back to people when they contact him. I sent a letter to Bill Young one time regarding how Social Security benefits are taxed on the Federal Income Tax return. I received a response on Social Security, but not about the subject matter I wrote about. Seems someone in the office saw the key words "Social Security" & hit a button to send me a form letter reply. No response would have been better then showing that letters aren't even read completely.

There is only one member of the U. S. House that has served longer than Bill Young. I guess it proves that all you need for many people in our district is to be a live Republican to deserve unending government employment as a Congressman. There about the same number of registered Democrats as Republicans (and a huge number of independents) in Pinellas County. Is Rep. Young so entitled that he feels he never needs to debate a challenger??

He should have checked his schedule before committing to a debate on this date -- or did he know his schedule and figured he didn't need to attend the debate??? His behavior is unacceptable.!

I beleive it was reported he hasn't shown up for a debate since 1992. So I'm going to assume it is he didn't feel the need to attend.

Could it have been he accepted the debate, then when a meeting with the Secretary of State was scheduled, sent his son in his place as allowed by the organizers of the debate ....

For this constituent/voter, I go to different events/forums to hear the actual candidates, not a stand in. I do not wish to hear an understudy-fill in! Not that Bill Young had my vote before the forum, he certainly did not have my vote afterwards! Actions speak louder than words! It seems to me that Bill Young disregarded the populace!
