Traffic Crash Shuts Down Belcher-Ulmerton Intersection in Largo

A bicyclist was struck by a driver headed southbound on Belcher just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, Largo Police said.

A traffic crash involving a car and bicyclist has shut down the intersection of Belcher and Ulmerton roads in Largo, police said Tuesday.

According to investigators, a biyclist was traveling westbound across Belcher at Ulmerton around 7:59 a.m. and headed toward a CVS when he was struck by a Dodge Neon headed southbound on Belcher.

The Neon's driver was not injured, Largo Police Lt. Mike Loux said in a media release. The bicyclist was seriously injured and transported by helicopter to an area hospital.

The intersection will be shut down for "the next couple of hours" while an investigation is conducted, Loux said.
