Dunedin teen singer Nathalie Hernandez heads into the first battle round on reality TV singing show "The Voice," which airs tonight and Tuesday on NBC.
"I'm super nervous about the battle rounds. I'm just gonna try my best to give it all I got in the battle rounds," she said during an interview with Christina Milian following the blind audition that wowed the celebrity judges on NBC's "The Voice," and earned her a spot on Christina Aguilera's team.
During battle rounds, Hernandez will be match against a singer from another team. The two will be judged on their performance of the same song. The teams are whittled down from 16 to 10 for the first round, but it includes a new twist during Season 3: the coaches are allowed two "Steals," in which they can take the loser of the matchup from other teams.
The first battle round episodes of "The Voice" air Monday and Tuesday night at 8 on NBC.
"The Voice" host Carson Daly teased his Twitter followers on Wednesday:
I'm in the studio doing all the voice over work for @NBCTheVoice first battle round episode...HOLY CRAP it's EPIC!! So stoked 4 next monday!
Hernandez was the first competitor to perform during blind auditions in Monday's episode, and after belting out the first few notes of Taylor Swift's "White Horse," she had Aguilera and fellow celebrity judge Blake Shelton hitting their buzzers and turning around their chairs to signify they wanted the 15-year-old singer to join their teams.
Hernandez also won over judge Adam Levine but eventually opted to become one of 16 singers on Aguilera's team.
"You seem like a natural storyteller," Aguilera told Hernandez. "I'd love to have you on my team."
Hernandez is a Dunedin High student who previously attended San Jose Elementary. She won the 2011 Largo Teen Idol competition and has written and performed her own songs on YouTube.
