Suspected '09 Bank Robber Caught Through DNA Evidence
Police say a DNA database match led to Wednesday's arrest of Arris Tayron Williams of Largo, who is accused of robbing a Clearwater BB&T bank in 2009.
Police have arrested a Largo man suspected of robbing a Clearwater bank in 2009 and credit his capture to DNA profiling, authorities announced Wednesday.
Arris Tayron Williams, 31, is accused of robbing the BB&T bank, 23684 U.S. 19 N., on Jan. 30, 2009.
Clearwater Police detectives had submitted DNA samples from the scene and established a profile into a DNA database, public safety spokesperson Elizabeth Watts said Wednesday. They were recently notified of a match and worked with the Largo Police Department to locate and apprehend Williams.
Williams was arrested Wednesday near Second and Missouri avenues in Largo. Clearwater detectives obtained a confession, Watts said.
Williams is being held in Pinellas County Jail on $50,000 bond and is awaiting trial on a robbery charge.
