Largo's Sports Shack Sporting New Hours, Specials

The Missouri Avenue eatery boasts enough food and drink deals to make any fan, or family, happy.

The Sports Shack has undergone a number of changes since Gregg Petrakis originally opened it as the Red Room in 2008.

Following a brief separation, the co-owner of the popular Largo Subs regained control of the restaurant from his business partners and reopened it as the Sports Shack nearly two years ago.

Today Petrakis’ place has undergone another, albeit minor, change as he decided to shorten the hours and eliminate lunches during the week. But a couple staples remain: excellent food and exceptional service.

“We make our own pizza dough, make our own sauce, make our own salsa, make our own chicken tenders, using all top-quality ingredients,” Petrakis said. “It’s not your typical sports bar food.

“And all the girls we have working here are second-to-none. They really care about the customers.”

While the hours might have been reduced, the menu has increased to include more food and drink specials every day.

Double tall drink specials and a $3 appetizer menu after 9 p.m., one-topping pizzas deals and $9 buckets of beer are just some of the deals Sports Shack offers on a regular basis.

And with 14 flat screens, a large outdoor patio bar and close proximity to Largo High School, the Shack is a perfect place to watch a game or hang out before or after one.

“We’re big supporters of Largo High athletics — we’ve fed the football team for many years,” Petrakis said. “But a lot of people don’t realize how close we are to the campus. It’s literally right down the street.”

“I took the place back almost two years ago. Business is progressing and people are finding out about the great food we have,” he added. “We just want to get the word out as to what we’re all about.”

Very attentive & polite waitstaff here! The food is excellent..but it's the 14 tv's that have me coming back. I can't get some of the games on my tv, so it's off to Sport Shack for pizza, beer and the PATS game! Nice atmosphere, lots of room, GREAT people. Give it a try.

A few friends of mine told me about this place as they visited Fl late last year. Look forward to eating there on my next trip through and meeting the proprietor and his beautiful babes.

Thanks to everyone who has responded so far.
We are known for our great food and tasty wing sauces. The Sports Shack special sauce is to die for. It's my own secret recipe, developed, over the yrs, to perfection.
Anyone in the area should stop on in and try it, or any of our other delicious food items. Our homemade pizza and our certified Angus burgers are amomg the house favorites. Thx again to all of our patrons for helping put the Sports Shack on the map.

The outside deck is an awesome place for hanging out and watching sports as it is well shaded and the fans keep it very comfortable year round. The food and drink specials are great and the staff is top notch. And though it is located not far off a busy road, traffic and road noise are barely noticed because of the great landscaping surrounding the deck.
