Preview: City Commission Meeting, April 3
Tonight's Largo City Commission meeting covers many topics- pedestrian safety, capital improvements, a rail crossing, light rail improvements, and more.
The Largo City Commission will consider continuing a pedestrian safety campaign at its April 3 regular meeting.
The and the Florida Department of Transportation have partnered in the pedestrian safety program with grant funding since 2010.
The current proposal is to accept $70,000 from a state grant to continue the pedestrian safety campaign, which has been successful according to a city report. The program would last about nine months.

The program provides education and enforcement at several intersections including along Missouri Avenue, East Bay Drive and Ulmerton Road.
Capital Improvements. The Largo City Commission will consider adopting the Capital Improvements Program (CIP). The report focuses on projects and expenditures, . The commission . The CIP must be adopted by the commission by May 1 and goes into effect Oct. 1.

The CIP serves as the city's long-range financial plan. It shows how much the city anticipates collecting in property taxes, user fees, and utility fees, also. The only utility rate increase for next year is the stormwater fee. That fee is expected to increase 15 percent.
Railways. The Largo City Commission will consider using unassigned gas tax monies to fund the replacement of the , west of Seminole Boulevard. The commission approved the $225,000 estimated replacement project on first reading on March 20.
The commission will also learn more about light rail alternatives, which could connect Largo with Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Hillsborough County.
Consent Agenda. The Largo City Commission will consider:
- appointing Ronald Davis as a member of the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee.
- a summer camp bus transportation contract with Astro Bus for $38,000.
- an after hours and emergency repairs contract with McGill Plumbing for $35,000.
- a sewer easement at 2255 Starkey Road, which is part of the Ulmerton Road Sewer Expansion project. Plus, consider a $299,441 contract on the sewer expansion project with R.A.M. Excavating.
Ceremonial Items.
- Miss Largo 2012, Leja Apple, and Miss Largo's Outstanding Teen, Julann Baker, will be introduced.
- The Largo Professional Firefighters Association will be honored for its part in the record breaking $1.9 million raised throughout the state for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in 2011.
