Pinellas County Sheriff's Burglary detectives have been investigating a series of residential burglaries in the Harbor Bluffs and Belleair Bluffs area, according to a news release.

Golf clubs, golf bags, fishing equipment and other items have been reported taken in a series of residential garage burglaries. Detectives learned that the burglary suspect was trying to sell the allegedly stolen golf equipment to local pro shops.

Around 1 p.m. today burglary detectives Sgt. Jeremy Nygren and Detective Ward Snyder observed the alleged suspect, Gary Nolan, 48, at the Pinecrest Golf Club on 8th Avenue SW.  

According to detectives, they tried to take Nolan into custody. Instead the suspect left the golf club in a white Lexus and reportedly grazed Snyder as he exited. Nolan left in the allegedly stolen vehicle and ended up on southbound Seminole Boulevard, according to a news release.

Then uniformed deputies responded and caught up with Nolan in the Lexus. In the process, Deputy Josh Jones was involved in a crash with minor injuries with two civilian vehicles at Seminole Blvd. and 54th Avenue, according to the sheriff's office.

Jones was following the Lexus when Nolan reportedly changed lanes suddenly just as a car in front of Jones stopped. The deputy rear-ended the stopped Honda Accord, which then collided into a Suzuki hatchback. The occupants of the Accord and the Suzuki declined medical treatment. Jones was checked for minor injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

According to the sheriff's office, the Lexus kept going south and then east onto Bay Pines where at some point the vehicle slowed or stalled as deputies "boxed" the Lexus in near 100th Way.

Nolan was arrested on charges of driving with a permanently revoked license, dealing in stolen property and fleeing and eluding with wanton disregard. More charges are pending, according to the sheriff's office.
