Plans for Walmart at Largo Crossroads Move Forward

The recently approved plans would add a Walmart near U.S. 19 and Roosevelt Boulevard. The plans will also provide for the master infrastructure for an apartment complex and a bus station.

Largo recently approved plans that will allow for the construction of a proposed Walmart and the master infrastructure at the former Largo Crossroads Mall property, Community Development Planner Jesus Niño wrote in a city report.

A new Walmart store, the 342-unit Gateway North Apartment Complex and a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) Bus Transfer Station are planned for the approximately 38-acre parcel. The property is near the intersection of U.S. 19 and Roosevelt Boulevard.

The first development order allows for the construction of the sanitary sewer systems; stormwater drainage systems, including a retention pond; internal roads; sidewalks; and landscaping. The master infrastructure plan covers the whole property, which includes the Walmart, apartments and bus transfer station, Niño wrote.

The second development plan approved recently focuses on just the Walmart portion of the project. The store will be on 13.66 acres of the 38-acre project. The plan will allow for the construction of the 120,851-square-foot Walmart with 349,597 square feet of parking drives and sidewalks, Niño wrote.

Construction should start soon on the master infrastructure and the Walmart. The plan is to complete the construction within 14 months, Niño wrote.

The proposed apartment complex will need its own separate development order, Niño wrote.

Does anybody know what will be built at the lot that is on Ulmerton just west of 113th on the North side of the street? There used to be a large vacant strip mall, with Boris Family Restaurant, and now they are tearing the building down. Thanks.
