Want to increase the overall fitness level of your children in a fun, safe and motivating environment? Children need 60 minutes of physical activity every day, according to government studies.
Here are some ideas to help from Largo Recreation.
Highland Recreation's, Fit Kids Program, teaches the importance of staying active and physically fit through a variety of speed, agility drills and cross training activities.
With the help of staff, children will get a full body workout using various equipment including medicine balls, free weights and exercise bands. The program is for children ages 8 to 14.
This program helps boost children's self esteem and gets kids excited about health and wellness. Largo's Fit Kids is held Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. until 6:15pm at the Highland Recreation Complex (400 Highland Ave.). Cost for each four-week session is $20 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. Program dates run March 1-22 and April 5-26, 2012. For more information, call (727)518-3016
Southwest Recreation Complex also offers a Fit Kids Program. The program meets on Monday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 until 7:15 p.m. The cost for the program is $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents.
The twice per week program has a nutrition component in addition to the cross-training activities. Children can keep food logs, learn more about reading food labels, and set personal fitness goals, Certified Personal Trainer, Brandon McIntosh said.
The next Fit Kids program at Southwest starts on March 5. The Southwest Recreation Complex is at 13120 Vonn Road. Call (727) 518-3125 for more information.
