Obama Campaign Opens Office in Largo
Supporters of President Barack Obama packed the new Largo office for its grand opening on June 20.
Patriotic banners and American flags decorated the new Obama For America office in Largo. Supporters filled the building and spilled over onto the lawn of the 225 West Bay Drive storefront.
The office opened just before Obama's scheduled visit to Tampa on Friday.
"It couldn't be better to have the grand opening (Wednesday) and have the president come Friday. His upcoming visit gives more excitement to this event," said Summer Organizer Evvy Bernstein.
Getting to the event early benefited some supporters who received free tickets for Obama's appearance in Tampa. The other four Tampa Bay-area Obama For America offices ran out of tickets on Tuesday.
Supporters were excited about the central Pinellas location. The Obama campaign's other Pinellas County office is in St. Petersburg.
"I think it is a really good location, just around the corner from where I live," said Largo resident Lauren Whitaker.
The grand opening is "pretty overwhelming. I am really surprised with all the people that turned out," Whitaker said.
