Stop running red lights and putting my life at risk and you won't get expensive tickets. I think the issue here is "Do they discourage red-light running, and therefore save lives?"

camera's are a form of selective law enforcement. It pays the best without any man hours involved. I will support camera use when the police start ticketing bike riders without lites and wearing dark clothing at nite and ticketing jaywalkers going between cars near lites.

It has both good & bad intentions. Good to deter or perhaps "prevent running lights." Bad for just another lazy way
for the government to make more ching ching.

As far as red light cameras, they are an invasion of privacy. If you are going to have them the limits of their use should be as follows: 1) Determining who was at the wrong in the case of an accident, 2) If a pedestian or a bike rider was at at fault when struck by a vehicle, 3) car-jacking or mugging and 4) to assist tracking a vehicle involved in a felony. No 'through the mail' moving violations unless a law enforcement official personally witnesses it on scene and will testify in court.

Did you not read the article that says studies show the cameras INCREASE accidents? It's all about extracting more tax money from the private individual to fuel BIG GOVERNMENT. Wake up citizens.

You don't have to "run the light" to get these "bargain" $158 tickets. If you do not come to a "complete stop" AND while your front tires are "behind" the white line they issue you one of these "bargain tickets". The same is true for a "rolling stop" when your taking a right turn on a red light and have to go past the white line to see past the obstructions to the oncoming traffic. Some people call these "chicken tickets" since they do not raise the same safety issues as "running the light".

Wake up all you uninformed taxpayers... your pocket is being fleeced.

I don't necessarily like them, but since I did get busted by one once I have to say I am a bit more careful and make sure to stop on red. If the numbers show that they are saving lives then keep on truckin' I say. But if there is just money being made and the statistics aren't really changing then get rid of them. I will add, on the flip side, it is easier getting a traffic ticket in the mail then getting 'pulled over' and having to deal with a cop. In the end I remembered it was my fault, I tried to 'beat the light' so the only person I could be made at was me.
