New Bistro Brings Authentic German Food to Largo

The new eatery German Bistro 2 offers hearty servings and complete home-cooked meals.

Have a craving for heaping helpings of potato salad, cabbage, dumplings, schnitzel and apple strudel with ice cream?

Everything is made from scratch at Largo's new German restaurant on East Bay Drive. German Bistro 2 co-owner Irena Seidl does the cooking herself and runs the restaurant with her business partner Lee Hoxie.

"I hope to make people here happy with my cooking ... we wanted to keep it small and cozy. It's like visiting us over at our house," Seidl said.

The new venture for Seidl though is not a lifelong dream, but rather making the best out of going through a divorce, getting laid off, and losing her housing, she said.

After an unsuccessful job search, Seidl decided to look to her German roots and go with what she knew. Seidl had helped her ex-husband open the German Bistro in South Tampa, and so she decided to start another restaurant.

"I like the business, we are outgoing people. We wanted to do something with people," she said.

The restaurant is located at 1300 East Bay Dr., at the former location of Del's Cheesesteaks. Currently, the restaurant serves lunch and supper, but may be expanding its hours to add breakfast, Seidl said.

My husband and I love to support local independent restaurants and we stumbled across this little gem on Yelp about a week ago. There was only one review but the feedback was positive so we decided to give it a try. My husband and I are army brats and have lived in Germany for several years so we know what German food is supposed to taste like. German Bistro 2 was spot on. The first time we went to the restaurant, we opened the door and Irena was dancing with a customer with polka music playing in the background. We knew it was going to be a great place at that point! The food is fresh and flavorful! Do yourself a favor and give this restaurant a try – you won’t regret it!
