Is Munchie's Open For Business?

City records show the bar is closed, but state online records show the business is open. What's the deal?

Munchie's Bar and Grill appears to be open again for business, even though city and state records give a conflicting picture of the bar's operational status.

City records show Munchie's has a 2012 business tax receipt as a bar and that it went out of business in January, according to City of Largo spokesperson Brandon Graham.

The city's community development department received a complaint from community members that the bar has re-opened. But the bar would need to obtain a valid business tax receipt, and Code Enforcement will follow up, Graham wrote in an email.

According to the city, there's also an open code violation at the strip center for using a portion of the building next to the bar without a certificate of occupancy in March. The power meter was pulled from that area, Graham said.

State records, meanwhile, show the business has an active retail beverage license. There are no active complaints on the state online record.

State records show the restaurant has an active food service license and was inspected most recently in August. That routine food inspection showed several violations, which were corrected on the spot. The "critical" violations included: no sanitizer on site, manager lacked proof of food manager certification and no proof of required employee training was provided, according to state records.

Munchie's Manager Quincy Owens said the bar reopened under new management in July. The new owners repainted the bar, completely redid the kitchen, brought "everything up to code" and added juke boxes, he said.

Owens said he was not aware of any violations or business license issues. He said the bar is not affiliated with the closed former laundromat next door.

The bar's front door contains a taped sign stating no drugs are allowed. Owens said he wants the public to know they "do not tolerate any drugs at all," he said.

Owens welcomed the public to come check out the new Munchie's. He said they have dancing including reggae and salsa music on Friday nights until 3 a.m. The bar and grill is open 3:30 p.m. until midnight daily, he said.

to the "Patch" you should really ask them for a post card that they mail out and hand out to the public..........advertising the they are open til 3am, must be 18 to "cum" and 21 to "swallow"......this isn't a bar and grill..

How long ago did the community members complain? I would think that the City would have acted then. The article states that "there's also an open code violation at the strip center for using a portion of the building next to the bar without a certificate of occupancy in March". Something does not sound right with this. How can a business continue to run in a City without the appropriate licensure and the officials who have clearly been made aware do nothing?

I'm new to this area and like my new home/neighbors but do not like this bar one bit. There are constantly police at this corner, fighting, what appears to be drug dealing, loud music and it brings a bad element into the area. I work nights and have noticed when I get off shift sometimes past 3am, the bar is still open and busy.

I don't understand why the city is letting it stay open if there are several complaints and they have known about them not having a valid business tax licence. Shut it down and get a good business in there, it would be nice to have a neighborhood bar where residents can meet up over drinks. I would never go to Munchies, it's downright scary there, I feel sorry for the school next door and residences around there.

We hope someone legitimate takes over and turns it back into a neighborhood watering hole where all types of people are welcomed, made to feel comfortable, are not solicited to buy drugs in the parking lot, food and drink prices are reasonable, and local residents are respected. We miss the good ol Munchies and the Brass Rail.

NOW would be a great time for a legitimate businessperson to JUMP IN AND TAKEOVER THAT BAR!! The neighborhood would welcome it.

It's a bar fronting for a strip club. Look at the dates of the recent photo posting on the f/book site. Just a little more than a week ago. I'm betting if this were set up in the "new beautiful" downtown Largo biz district it'd never fly!

Look at how they destroyed the bar: http://largo.patch.com/listings/munchies-grill-bar. Before and after pics on the above link.

What a trainwreck! The new pics make it look like a circus freak show and the FB pictures speak for themselves. WAKE up City of Largo and LE.

The plastic is back up on their windows again and a sign says "Closed for repair" What's next? I really hope the city does it's due diligence before ever allowing this bar to reopen.

How would you feel if this was on your street around your children!? It's disgusting!

It appears to us that the bar is indeed closed and is listed for lease. Coincidentally traffic on Adrian Ave is down as well as suspicious characters.

It just goes to show, when you start a business venture on an untruthful foot, it never ends well.

It is sad to see so many people who claim to be a part of a neighborhood never come out to even meet the accused before they past some much judgment on someone that is trying to keep an old memory open for the neighborhood .After looking over the comments and negativity of so many people from the nighborhood i ask myself how many people on this comments that have commented about Munchies Grill and Bar have actually walked down/ driven down and talk to Quincy the manager of the bar and explain to him how they felt personally about Munchies, the answer to this question is zero. Enough time to slander the local neighborhood bar instead of taking the opportunity to know who we are first.

I would like to thank Melissa Lattman, for opening my eye's on the special repairs that needed attention with Munchies Grill & Bar. I also would like to personally invite everyone from the neighborhood to come down and see for yourself exactly what kind of Grill & Bar(Munchies Grill & Bar) is on Adrian Ave.

Quincy,
As a mother, homeowner, as longtime resident of this neighborhood I am disappointed in the establishment which you have presented. The pictures that I have been shown with a young woman sitting on a man's lap in your bar is appalling. I have personally gone to your establishment with a girlfriend prior to the 'ladies' nights, attempted to speak with you, and was given the cold shoulder. I guess all of this has been enough for me to make an educated decision on your standing and priorities - especially since your La La La Ladies nights flyers have not been distributed to the neighborhood is very indicative that we are not the clientele you are striving for.

"18 to come, & 21 to swallow!!" Yeah, that's what I want to see on the door of a bar when I walk in. (sarcasm) All them damn drug dealers need to be tossed out of the neighborhood! This place attracts them like flies!! This place is trashing our neighborhood more & more everyday it remains open. Close this DUMP already!!!!

The reality is this:

#1 This neighborhood has never had adult entertainment, bikini dancers, strippers as outlined in your online flyers and we do not welcome it. 18+ to Cum and 21+ to Swallow is not a good indication of the clientele you are trying to attract

#2 No flyers or welcome was ever extended to the neighborhood ever. If you truly wanted to welcome in the neighborhood an effort would have been made. It is my understanding that the neighborhood watch invited you to their functions and you did not attend

#3 Several community members have been to the bar and were not made to feel welcome by you and indeed given the cold shoulder.

#4 The old memory of Munchies and the Brass rail was of good food, hanging w/neighbors, karaoke, bands, sports and a good selection of beverages at an affordable price. Charging $3.50-$5 a bottled beer and only one beer on draft is not a good thing. We could go nextdoor to the store and buy a 6 pack for a few $ more

#5 This is a residential area with an accredited school nextdoor to the bar. Selling cups of ice for $3 so patrons can make their own cocktails in the parking lot w/liquor is not a good idea on many levels

#6 Why are there so many fights at your location yet very few calls to Largo police beyond a few 911 hangup calls? I would think a responsible bar owner would not want fighting at his establishment?

It's disrespectful and a detriment to the neighborhood what has been allowed to happen on this street in relation to your bar. If you truly want to welcome the immediate neighborhood then you have your work cut out for you. The bar's new reputation is what it is and you're going to have a hard time turning that around unless changes are made.

How would you feel if there was a strip club, fights, drugs on YOUR street where children play?

I haven't been in the area very long but long enough to see the transition in Munchies over the past year. I have been in the establishment during the day and kinda miss the Sunday back porch days with neighbors. To be honest the big deal breaker for Sunday gatherings is $5 a bottled beer, no food and limited draft beer. And we never knew when you were open or not.

As for the nighttime frolic, I've seen the flyers and am not impressed. Sorry but I must agree... I don't go to any bars advertising 18 to cum and 21 to swallow. Strippers? Yuk.

The reason i have not addressed anything, is because there is nothing I can address to someone who has already made up his/her mind about what type of person, or business you are. If not one of my commenters ever come to Munchies to see for themselves. I know who i'am, and what type of business I run. Let me say this, I have alot of new friends on Adrián Ave. who love and support me and Munchies, and can't wait until we open up in November.

Tina, I will take the time to answer your come comment, because your still new to the area. Tina alot of people don't understand that: 1.) I have never had a party next door. 2.) I never had any gathering on Sunday(good idea). 3.) The bar was open 7 days a week until we started much needed repairs. 4.) We only have $5 bottled on high end beer at night time, but we have 2 different taps for $1, and 12 othet bottle beers for $2.50, and 7 different beers top end for $5 at night and $4 in the afternoon( the same as every other bar I checked) plus soda, water and energy drinks etc. 5.) If most people take the time and read the flyer carefully, they would see Munchies did not make the flyer or start the night. Biggerthings Ent was the name of the group, and Did not put one Lady Night flyer out in the community, but when they had my x staff member add it to Munchies Facebook the second week, Munchies manage shut the night down for good. See Tina, I don't like strippers either.

Quincy:

While I appreciate a good party as much as the next person, I must say after last night's "Party" https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=433038743435788&set=a.433038713435791.105969.100001889998888&type=1&theater
I am a bit disappointed and disturbed. The neighborhood traffic on foot and by vehicle started picking up around 11PM, along with the BOOM BOOM cars and Mutha F****r this and that loud and clear. Next came the loud music coming from the bar way past 2 AM.

I'm sorry but this is a residential neighborhood and what happened last night from your patrons was straight disrespect. How would you feel if your children trying to sleep had to hear such noise and vulgarities way into the wee hours of the morning? If this is any indication of the way Munchies will be operating I can guarantee the residents of this neighborhood will start speaking up again.

I urge you to ask your patrons to be respectful of the neighborhood in turning down their BOOM BOOM stereos that shake our houses, cut back on the vulgarities loud and clear and stop throwing their blunt wrap and beer can garbage in the neighborhood yards.

We "can" co-exist peacefully if an effort is made on your part. Otherwise, it's going to be the same ol same ol.

If what you said was true then you would be right, but it's not. I can't control everything people do when they drive through the neighborhood, I'm not God. Plus we don't sale beer cans at our bar, and there's no houses next to Munchies to throw cans and blunt wraps in there yards. Munchies clean up the bar and parking lot every night. You speak peace, but all you do is fight. You call the police on Munchies before anybody even showed up for the party. You send people to harass us on a regular basis, but yet you speak on pease. I haven't seen you do anything to try and get along with Munchies. We don't ever have to speak on it, but I know why you don't won't me in the neighborhood, and all my friends in Indian Rock Beach know. Oh, p.s. I'm not a drug dealer(something to talk about at the next pool party)Trish.

I just have one more thing to say on the patch, I dislike people who make things up to make things go more in their own favor for their own selfish reasons. If a person will mislead you one time, how do you know when their word is credible. We don't sale can beers, so how can we throw them in people(no houses next to Munchies, just a school & businesses) yards.no one was smoking inside or out, no one was drinking outside at all(cause they would have gone to jail), and the was not load at 2:00am as you said. You might be asking yourself, how can we trust him we don't even know him. Don't, call Largo PD. They were nice enough to sit across the street all night with a(officer's said they we're call out for noice at 9:55pm before one person was in the build)sound meter. I'm a truthful person, so i can say we had the door open playing music at 9:22pm, but after i talked to the officers, close the front and back door to Munchies so i wouldn't get a fine from the city wgen they pulled out the sound meter.

Quincy:
In reading her comments, there are a few items that need clarification:

#1 It was never implied that the beer cans and garbage came from your establishment however after Saturday night there was alot of garbage thrown about the neighborhood. Let;'s face it, people have "road beers" and may very well have tossed cans and such on their way to your establishment.

#2 We did not call in any complaints on Saturday night nor did Tina, she was with us and other neighbors. We do not know who called in the complaint, however we would like to thank whomever did because we COULD hear the music as well as the traffic and vulgarities.

#3 Who is Trish? Are you referring to the old owner? She is not a part of our neighborhood watch nor a resident of this neighborhood as far as we know.

#4 She never stated that you have parties every night nor was it implied. There is nothing wrong with throwing parties as long as it does not disturb the residents of this neighborhood.

Like it or not, your establishment is located IN a residential neighborhood within 1000 ft of a school and residential dwellings. Respect is a two way street, and we understand you cannot control your patrons outside the bar however is it too much to ask to post or ask them to be respectful when traveling through this residential area?

It seems to me that there is alot of miscommunication in your "Indian Rocks Beach friends" as we have no idea where your above comments regarding the neighborhood residents came from.

If you want the neighborhood to participate in your events then our suggestion is to engage them in a positive manner.

Some Italian guys are cleaning and renovating to open "Anthony's" and we couldn't be happier! The menu looks delicious, Pizza, italian dishes, desserts, beer/wine and we welcome them with open arms into our neighborhood.

No thugs/no drugs allowed and they graciously wholeheartedly AGREE :)

It will be nice to have a real neighborhood gathering place back.
