Man Goes to Jail For Having a Sandwich in His Pants

The suspect refused to return the sandwich to the shelf and instead kept it in his pants, according to the arrest affidavit.

LARGO, FL --  A local man went into a gas station on Monday morning, apparently without any money. He left with a sandwich in his pants, according to an arrest affidavit.

Edward J. Warren, 41, was arrested on a charge of retail theft with two prior convictions.

The store clerk at the Hess Gas station at 2698 Roosevelt Blvd. saw the sandwich in Warren's pants and asked him to return the sandwich to the store shelf. Instead, the suspect walked passed the clerk without returning the merchandise and grabbed another sandwich from the shelf. Warren then left without paying for the merchandise and fled on a bicycle, according to the report.

Police found Warren later, and he "admitted to the crime" after he was read his Miranda rights, the report said.

The value of the sandwich found concealed in his pants was $4.99. However, the other sandwich was not located, according to the affidavit.

Warren had two prior convictions for theft in 2001 and two more in June of 2002, according to the report.

The store probably would have sold the sandwich to someone else if he returned it.

Does anyone care that he might have been hungry? I say, if someone does something that bizarre, help them. He obviously cannot take care of himself.
