Largo Cookie Poll Predicts Obama's Win

For the third presidential election, Frida's Cafe & Bakery in Largo sold sugar cookies with the likeness of presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

For the third presidential election, customers at Frida's Cafe & Bakery on Ulmerton Road correctly predicted the winner of the presidential contest.

President Barack Obama was the people's choice among voters in Pinellas County, across the nation and at Frida's.

The Largo bakery has been selling sugar cookies with the likeness of Obama or Gov. Mitt Romney and tallying the sales since the conventions this summer.

As the election polls closed around Largo at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, so did the bakery's presidential cookie poll. With 5,477 cookies sold, customers had purchased 2,888 Obama cookies and 2,589 Romney cookies.

"We did it again. I am so excited about it," said bakery owner Frida Aalipour.

"A diverse group of people from all walks of life come to the bakery ... It makes me happy to be part of the community and what people are passionate about," she said.

Cookie sales were brisk on Election Day, with 703 cookies sold Tuesday. Aalipour had to bring in an extra baker to help with decorating candidate cookies.
