Emergency Crews Find Body in a Canal
A floating body was found in a canal this morning, according to Largo Fire Chief Mike Wallace.
Early this morning, emergency crews were alerted to a body in a small canal off of 150th Avenue North. A pedestrian passing the waterway called the Largo Police Department around 7:30 a.m., according to a police news release.
Around 7:43 a.m., a Largo Fire Department crew confirmed the approximately 40-year-old man was dead, Fire Chief Mike Wallace said.
The body had been there "for at least several hours," Wallace said.
Fire crews waited for the medical examiner's office. The body was pulled from the water around 10 a.m. According to police there is "no apparent trauma to the body nor are there any immediate indications of foul play."
The deceased has been identified but the name has not yet been released. Authorities do not have a local address for the man but he did have a Safe Harbor identification card, according to a police news release.
The Medical Examiner's Office has custody of the body to determine the cause and manner of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
