The Largo Golf Course has revamped its Junior Golf Program for Summer 2012, lead by head golf professional, James Sturgeon.
Sturgeon has been teaching golf lessons to both youth and adults for over ten years and has had the honor of being selected as the 2010 National Instructor of the Year, and the 2010 and 2011 US Kids Top 50 Instructor of the Year.
“Largo Golf Course is a great place to start learning golf. It is short, reasonably priced and fun to play,” said Sturgeon.
Recently, with the assistance of Sturgeon, the Largo Golf Course held its first Junior Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 19 which turned out to be a huge success.
The tournament's 25 participants were divided into three age groups: 6-9, 10-13, and 14-17. Awards were given to the top winners from each age group following the competition.
“I was so proud of the kids. They all worked very hard and it's rewarding for me to see them grow and learn the game of golf,” Sturgeon said.
Following the excitement after the first tournament, Largo Golf Course will be hosting a Junior Golf Tournament once per quarter. The next tournament is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 2012.
In addition to tournaments, two new Junior Golf Programs will be held at the Largo Golf Course this summer. Youth Golf Clinics are held every Saturday from 9-10am and cost $40 for the month, or a drop-in rate of $12 per session.
Weekly Summer Camps for ages 4-15 will begin June 11 and run Monday through Friday for two hours a day. All golf camps include a skills challenge and end of summer tournament. Cost is $60 per week.
Both youth golf programs are designed for all skill levels and will teach proper stance, grip, swing and etiquette.
