Body Pulled from Water Off Indian Rocks Beach
The man was a visitor to the area. Witnesses described him as intoxicated and reported seeing him walk off the dock and into the water.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man who may have walked off the dock behind the Holiday Inn Harbourside Hotel and Marina at Indian Rocks Beach.
A Sheriff's Office spokesperson says around 5:30 Sunday morning, a witness called 911 and reported seeing a man who was very intoxicated walking down the dock area behind the hotel. The caller said that as the man approached a turn in the dock, he continued to walk straight ahead and walked off the dock into the water.
Deputies say that a witness who saw the man from a hotel window called 911 and went to help, but the man was unresponsive.
Fire rescue responders retrieved the man's body shortly after 6:00 a.m. Deputies say he was fully clothed. The man has tentatively been identified. His name will be released after his family is notified of the death. He is not a Tampa Bay resident.
