Barack Obama Re-Elected President
President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.
President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan.
NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you."
The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy.
The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from both candidates. After a weak performance after the Republican Convention, Romney surged following Obama’s listless performance after the first presidential debate. Nevertheless, the president cemented a lead in battleground states heading into Tuesday’s election.
While the results in Florida are still too close to call, here around Tampa Bay, President Obama got the majority of the votes in Pinellas County

You are more worried about yourself than the people that work hard for what they have and want to keep it. Small business and big business are worried about the bottom line for themselves. The unions made sure that the wealth was spread around, what hurt them wasn't the wages, but, taking in people that weren't qualified to fill the position just to put people on the job. They are the ones to thank for the minimum wage where it is, not politicians. Businesses have cut back employees because they figured out that if they can get the people they have, to do double the work for the same money it makes them more money. How many know of someone that is doing this right now? They figured out they can make just as much profit with less people doing more. Someone tell me would you rather make 75% profit or close your doors? When they talk about profit dwindling down remember it's from 100% and not 0%. The news networks have broken down the votes by ethnic's,black, hispanic, whites and so on, this is a land of diversity and republicans don't get it. My Dad always told me that republicans are for the rich and Democrats are for the poor. If you could get all politicions to work together for America we all would be better off they govern for all of us not just the wealthy and that's what killed Romney along with blatent lies that I still can't beleive came out of his mouth.

Romney Is My Guy,
Regardless of who was elected we were going to be fitting the bill, it all just depended on where the excessive spending was going to be used. The Affordable Health Care Act if used as written is a great piece of Bi-Partisan legislature. The only problem is everyone gets their information from partisan news instead of reading the Bill itself. The insurance premiums have been going up well before it, because insurance companies have been using it as the boogie man for their consumers. Lobbysts didn't want it to pass, because in the long run it would hurt their business. As far as other expendatures, now we have to hope the Republican House, Democratic Senate, and Democratic President can put down partisanship and work as Americans. But that hasn't happened between the two parts since the late 1990's.

To "adam wailing". The language in your comment has been troubling me. While I personally would never use the term "redneck", I do understand others don't always regard it as an insult. The word "retard" is another matter. There is absolutely no excuse for ever using this word as an insult. Millions of people and their families struggle with mental disabilities; some from birth throughout their whole lives, others from injuries, many in military service. It is disrespectful to them to ever use this word as a casual insult. This Patch has seen comments deleted for profanity; in my opinion this is a word that should be added to any list which would cause a comment to be deleted. In any case, there are so many other words which could be used that don't have the power to hurt so many innocent people and their families.

ptb - What we have heard is the will of the people. The people have embraced Mr. Obama and rejected Mr. Romney. Vox populi is an ancient expression - yet today of all days it is the mode of the day. The PEOPLE have stood together and together the people have selected a leader. As a nation, in order for us to move forward, we must coalesce into a energized single entity - we can not afford to be divided. To an audience of 1,000 Republicans in 1858 Abraham Lincoln said - A house divided against itself cannot stand.

Hey Remember that JFK guy? What ever happend to "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY" and wasn't he a Democrat? Humph...go figure.
And when do the impeachment proceedings start? It has been nearly 60 days since the terrorist attack on our U.S Consulate in Benghazi that took the lives of 4 Americans. All of this time for the Obama Administration to get their story straight but they just keep avoiding the issue. Every day we get more and more information that has leaked through the cracks only to cast a darker shadow on the already unbelievable situation. As our Military was mobilizing Marines and C-130s they got an order from the White House to STAND DOWN. It has also been reported that over 400 of our Nation's most important people related to National Security were watching the attack unravel in real time by way of drone video and security cameras we had all over the Consulate. Where are those videos and what is the Administration trying to cover up?

Daryl, Are you seriously still talking about Benghazi? You need to expand your news sources beyond the paranoid and conspiracy-loving Fox News. The Benghazi incident is being investigated and we need to wait for its conclusions before we can proceed further with this matter. What we really need to do is unite our country to resolve our many domestic issues here at home. We need to move our country forward and not spend our time creating false Benghazi conspiracy theories.

Daryl Dixon,
As someone who works with the DoD and has security clearance. You know very, very little of what went on. It is currently under investigation. Most of these investigations take about a year. As far as the two possible plans you are referring to, they were possibilities. But do you know how a C-130 attacks works in the middle of a city with thousands of innocent civilians? The Marines is another issue and was logistical. Now I ask, were you asking the same questions with the 6 embasses attacked during the Bush administration. Like the following:
2002, Karachi, Pakistan - 10 dead
2004, Uzbekistan - 2 dead, 9 injured
2004, Saudi Arabia - 8 dead
2006, Syria - luckly no one was killed
2007, Athens - luckly no one was killed
2008, Serbia - Embassy was set on Fire
2008, Yemen - 10 dead
Two months after these events were you calling for answers or are you playing partisan politics now?

I know we have been attacked before; you are not the only one in this conversation that has served defending this Republic. I also know that it does not depend on who sits in the White House or what political party is in power, that there are elements out there that hate us and our way of life and no amount of apologizing will ever stop that. Neither Bush nor Clinton intentionally lied to the American People about those attacks when they occurred, and before you start to put words in my mouth I am not saying that our President did but do we not have a responsibility and a duty to ask? And as a person who formally held a Top Secret Yankee White Clearance, I do know a little bit about military operations and the logistics behind them. I know how fast our Marines can be inserted, I also know what an order to stand down is and I am more inclined to believe the reports from those who were there until proven otherwise.

And, as someone who once was part of the nuclear weapons reliability program, and had access to four distinct Top Secret compartmented programs, I can tell you that you know comparatively little about how such forces can be - and should, or sometimes should not be - inserted.
Instead of blowing smoke and flashing mirrors, why don't you, and everyone else, wait for the results of the various investigations being done by the professionals?
One of my former responsibilities was in communications, and instantaneous reactions are often wrong, and multiple reactions are often conflicting, as our incoming communications often demonstrated.
This President has been superb in his use of US military forces, getting more done at less cost to our brave troops, and to the nation overall.
And, if you are going to criticize him for an incident where not even the investigating professionals, with access to multiple sources of information, have yet been able to reach conclusions, then all you are doing is trying to find some way to justify your own anger and disappointment, and finding some single source of complex issues and facts, and take it out on the President.
You have no idea what the President, or the multiple layers of command (and do you really understand the chain of command?), knew as the incident was evolving.

But I ask you, why the story of the video? Why not tell us the truth or if you don’t know tell us you don’t know? WHY make up a story of a Youtube video inciting this “spontaneous” response? Is it because the truth did not fit with what we were supposed to believe about our new status in the world and how we had al-Qaida on the run? I am not expecting answers today, I know that these investigations take time but to me it seems like some of us are content to sit idly by as long as we are fed from the trough. This situation goes beyond partisan politics it goes to the core principles of our Commander in Chief and we deserve to know the truth about what happened.

Daryl,
The truth is being investigated by some intelligent non-partisan members who want the facts. Not the "truths" being leaked out. Now, I have stated several times that the comments by both Obama post this incident and Romney were wrong to make. Both men made statements that they didn't have the full information to make. As far as lying about the situations, maybe. I also know a lot of people said that Bush II lied about his direct knowledge of the 9-11 attacks until it was fully investigated. So I'm just saying that these things take time, and not to pass full judgement until we have the full facts. I'm not stating this to support Obama, but to support the men and women who I support who have to go through this information daily and protect our country.

It has been the Republican goal to objectify people as "others." You could see it with the handling of Romney. When did we most hear about Romney was a Mormon? It was during the Republican primaries. Even if it was the repeated "Oh, the fact that he is a MORMON doesn't bother me;" it meant constantly making sure that his religion was at the front of every discussion, almost like a backhanded compliment; keeping it out there as a dog whistle because they knew that it struck a chord in the base.
Then when the national election was between Obama and Romney, the mention of his religion was rarely ever heard about again. What you mainly saw from Republicans were these same portrayals of Obama as some sort of "other." Actually, not even a singular "other," but objectifying him as some other religion, some other nationality, some other completely different political philosophy, etc. This is the strongest tool that the Republican party has to fight their political races and to divide the country by compartmentalizing people into these groups with varying and conflicting (and mostly fictitious) agendas.
For anybody who was spewing such vile rhetoric on sites like Patch, at family picnics or at the local pub, no matter the greater good that you perceived and used to justify it in your head, I think that today is a day for looking in the mirror as the whole Republican party ought to be doing right now. Yesterday, this great nation overwhelmingly rejected that way of thinking.

This (to me) isn't about women's rights, helping the unfortunate and not the clueless, racial divides, religious positions, gay/lesbians, or any other political factions...... this is about a LOT more.
This to me is about the direction the country is taking when we have a media that doesn't ask the hard questions, doesn't require accountability, allows people to deceive and deflect by not keeping their promises, and the apathetic nature the electorate is taking as a whole by not considering these issues in their voting decisions. People have taken on a good parent/bad parent mentality. The parent/candidate who promises you candy 24/7 and lets you stay up all hours of the night will always win over the one that requires you maintain a curfew and eat your vegetables. But in the long run, who's REALLY looking out for YOUR best interests?

Oh my, Ms Dunlap is off into fantasyland, without even paying for her Florida Resident Disney Pass.
Fortunately, even most of those who voted for Romney are not that delusional.
Governor Romney was gracious and inspiring in his concession speech, and President Obama was equally thoughtful in his own recognition of the lifelong sense of service which both George Romney and his son Mitt followed.
The President was also inspiring in his election acceptance speech, and he spoke of themes that are well understood by the moderate wing of the Republican Party, and if that wing can prevail over the Tea Party lunatics, then this country will be able to overcome not only the five and a half year old recession which is slowly being corrected, but also build a solid future for my children and grandchildren.
